With its distinctive red triangle logo, the Apollinaris brand of bottled water is one of the oldest and most recognisable in the world. Founded in 1852 by George Kreuzburg, the company is now based in Bad-Neuenahr, Germany and is a subsidiary of German Coca-Cola Erfrischungsgetränke AG.

Domino has worked closely with the company since 1999, handling all their printing and labeling systems. Currently in operation are eight Dot Matrix Laser, a laser scribing system for internal traceability and multiple inkjet printers.

“For reliability and flexibility of the system technologies, as well as excellent service, Apollinaris GmbH has selected Domino as its sole supplier for laser and inkjet technology.”

Apollinaris has invested heavily in machinery that enables them to manufacture their own reusable PET bottles, and sleeve labeling is the latest printing process to be integrated into their production lines.

The sleeve labels rely on three DDC3 laser heads, all supplied by Domino. Two of the heads print production information, batch numbers and sell by dates, while the third prints a small triangle via PET labeling. Apollinaris use this to track how many times the bottle has been refilled and when it’s ready to be pulled in for recycling.

"With its ‘Queen of Table Waters’ slogan, the Apollinaris brand has proven hugely popular for over 150 years, including guest appearances in the works of James Joyce, John Betjemen and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle."

Parallel lines

Apollinaris worked with Domino to implement an A-Series inkjet system into their innovative Tetra Pak production line. The Domino system works in parallel with the Tetra Brik conveyor to print batch information and sell by dates directly onto the Tetra Pak. Meanwhile, on a separate line, a C7 coder prints product information onto the tray the filled Paks are bundled into. Both systems have proven reliability, and the ability to run them in parallel helps increase production efficiencies.
